Hot hair trends for 2013

8 Feb

I’m always looking for fun and new ways to wear my hair whether I’m growing it out or trying to work with shorter hair. So I’ve made it my mission to search high and low to bring you the hottest hair trends for 2013, to ensure your barnet stays fresh, fun and flawless. So if you’re looking to make a drastic statement or just freshen up your style, check out these great tips and trends.

For many of us February means back to the full work routine, keeping New Year’s resolutions and the dreaded post holiday downer. So what better way to lift the blues, than by shaking off the old and welcoming the new with a fresh do! I have searched the catwalks, studied the red carpet and scoured the city streets to find these inspiring hair trends, so enjoy.

Short and sassy

For ladies with short hair, the pixie cut still reigns supreme, but it’s about having more fun with it in 2013. To wear this look well, mix it up by adding a dramatic fringe either swept to the side or styled with a soft bang. If you’re looking for something more daring, style your hair into soft spikes or model into a quiff for added volume and drama.

Bring on the bun

The chignon bun is an essential look for 2013, whether you’re off for a night out with the girls or brunch with your family – it’s a winner.  Unlike the top knot of the season past, the runways are exploding with elegant chignons in an array of styles. Braid a few pieces of hair before building the bun and position to the side for a fun and flirty look. For a more formal occasion, curl your hair to add texture to your chignon and finish off the look with an accessory.

Sweeping beauty

The side swept look is a great way to combine classic vintage and glamour. This look is very versatile and easy to accomplish, simply sleek back your hair to one side and style with curls or add a bouffant, to recreate the old Hollywood look that’s gracing the red carpet.

Be bold with braids

Using braids is a quick and easy way to revive lengthier locks and nothing says chic quite like the fishtail plait. Make a statement by positioning the plait to the side and adding a soft curl to your fringe. The Waterfall plait is also an impressive way to show off a unique style and keep half up do’s exciting. For the brave, use the classic plait or a French braid to create a criss-cross design across your head.

Colour block

2013 is all about experimenting with pastels; think a subtle silver grey, light pinks and purples. For those of you looking to make an understated splash with colour, the reverse dip-dye is a great place to start. Dye your tips a few shades darker than your roots to create an edgy ‘dip-dye’ effect. Remember to always use a good quality conditioner or treatment to protect your hair once it’s been coloured.
